Happy Thankful Thursday Y'all!! We're in the process of hunkering down as we wait for Hurricane Irma to hit. The weather reports for our area have been all over the place since there are conflicting reports on the path that she will end up taking. Either way, I think that we can anticipate some strong winds and heavier than usual rain. We're a few hours inland and I'm staying optimistic that we won't have any flooding and praying that we don't get any spin-off twisters either.
I'm praying especially for all of my family and friends in the Florida area as they will be hit pretty hard either way. Some of them decided not to take any chances and evacuated, but there are a few that have decided and have to weather out the storm due to work and not wanting/being able to abandon other family members. So, please send up a prayer for the East Coast, especially Florida.
What I'm Thankful For This Week
Family Vacations | There's no denying that I was more than a little bit absent from the blog last month. Part of the reason was that I went on vacation with my family to Florida thanks to my brother who organized the entire trip. The drive there was long thanks to a really bad rain storm that was sweeping through the Georgia/Florida border from Hurricane Harvey. At one point we had to actually pull off the road because we couldn't see through the rain.
I'm so grateful that God allowed it clear up a few seconds for us to see the exit to a rest area that was literally a few feet ahead of us. Other drivers actually stopped on the interstate. We took a 30-minute break and the rain finally let up enough for us to continue our journey. When I say that I will forever let my baby brother be in charge of future family trips, I'm so serious.
He picked the perfect resort for us to stay at. We had an apartment style suite that included two master bedrooms with jacuzzi tubs, a guest bedroom with two full beds, a fully stocked kitchen, three bathrooms and there was a washer and dryer along with washing detergent. I felt so spoiled and at home. Overall, our vacation was awesome. The kids haven't stopped talking about it yet.
We already have another family trip to Charleston planned coming up soon and for next year we've already added Hawaii and a return trip to Florida! I'm so excited and grateful that I'm finally able to start traveling with my kids and exposing them to different areas and cultures.
Homeschooling | Since homeschooling JJ went well last year, I decided to continue and homeschool again this year. Then Moo pleaded her case as to why she didn't want to do traditional school this year and now she's homeschooling with us too!
I'm not going to lie, I was a bit overwhelmed at first, especially since the homeschooling laws are different here. In the end, though, I'm thankful that I have both of my kids in homeschool.
I love the flexibility. We were able to still have school while we were on our Florida trip and they have the freedom to learn at their own pace and get one-on-one assistance when they need it. Plus they're learning independence and how to be self-starters. We're finally in the groove of things and I can't wait to see how the rest of our homeschooling year will play out.
Pinterest | I mentioned before that I'll be remodeling our current home. I knew right off the bat that our current home was going to be a live-in fixer upper. Also, I knew right away that I wanted to give it a farmhouse glam vibe. With nothing but a vision in my head, I went out to home improvement and furniture stores but ended up overwhelmed and frustrated.
Then it hit me that I had some things saved on Pinterest. Some of the stuff I initially wanted, I realized wasn't going to work for our space. So since then I've been searching all things farmhouse and pinning stuff that I like. When I say that Pinterest has been a lifesaver, I mean that I've finally got the designs for our kitchen, our fence, backyard and most of the master bed and bath finalized.
I can't wait to share this whole remodel process with you guys. And this month is our three month anniversary of being homeowners. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to make it's not a dream. I think the kids feel the same way because JJ asked me the other day if I could believe that we have a yard for him to play in. Y'all, leaving apartment life behind was the best decision, we made as a family. We're just so much happier and at peace.

Thanks Camille! We are safe. Some our neighbors were without power yesterday, but it's been restored. Our area got very minimal damage and thankfully no flooding.
DeleteI think it is awesome that you homeschool your kids. I would have been overwhelmed at first too. We are in North Carolina so I can't wait to hear about your trip to Charleston. We haven't taken our kids there yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! Homeschooling two kids instead of one has definitely been challenging this year, but we've gotten into our groove and love it. I can't wait until our Charleston trip is finally here. We're counting down the days! And Charleston is a great family-friendly place to visit.
DeleteI am thankful no big storms (yet this year) where i live - long island, New York in a town still recovering from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Good luck with homeschool. I too have a 1 and 3rd grader (in the local public school). Fun ages, but my kids are tough. They do well with the structure of school but I do think the flexibility you are talking about would be a cool experience as well. http:///www.mommatogo.com
