Thankful Thursday

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

~ Jeremiah 29:11

Jeremiah 29:11 was my meditation scripture for 2015 and I have to say that I'm thankful I chose it.  Despite it everything, through all the good and the bad, I truly say that God gave me hope and prospered me in ways I didn't even imagine.  It's January 2016 as I type this, therefore He gave me a future as well.  If you haven't picked an inspirational quote or scripture to meditate on for this year, I recommend that you do.  Read it whenever you feel the walls of doubt, frustration, anger, sadness or happiness, joy and love rising up.

I'm thankful that our New Year has gotten off to a terrific start.  Goals and resolutions have been set, vision boards made and prayed over.  I've even made progress on a few already and we're only seven days into 2016.  They say you start the year how you want to finish it.  Well, I we're off to a strong start.

For the past almost two years I've been dropping updates about JJ's speech therapy progress during Thankful Thursday.  No need to break the tradition.  I'm thankful to announce that he's officially getting discharged from speech therapy with his current therapist.  They've progressed as far as they're going to.  We're definitely going to miss her though.  However, JJ is not a talking machine.

His speech issues now pretty much just include little things like teaching him when to use "me" versus using "I" and other issues that can be addressed through a school setting.  With our Big Move coming up, I can't help but feel God lined this timing up just right.  He still needs OT therapy and we'll have to wait to see what therapists will be available in our new neighborhood when we move.  But this is very exciting for me!

It's comforting to have some affirmation that my little guy is well on his way to getting where he needs to be.  This journey has been hard on all of us.  It was absolutely frustrating in the beginning for all of us, especially JJ.  I was frustrated because I couldn't make everything okay and he was frustrated because he was starting to become aware that he was a little different.  Then there were all these people coming in, getting in his personal space, etc.  He was overwhelmed, but now he handles it like the champ he's always been.

School started back this week, but we're all thankful tomorrow is Friday.  Unfortunately we got too addicted to our two weeks of staying up late and sleeping in until ten o'clock.  We're all looking forward to going to bed early Friday and using the weekend to help us get back in the groove of things.

What are you giving thanks for this New Year?
