Recently | December

I can't believe it's been over a year since I've done one of my these posts.  Recently is my version of the Currently series that other bloggers have been taking part in.  With the year coming to a quick close, I thought I'd catch up and share what's been going on over here in the YUMMommy household.  These prompts are courtesy of Jenna from Gold & Bloom.

Wishing

I know I'm always talking about how I wish time would slow down, but I can't wait for 2016 to get here.  Seriously, I'm bursting with excitement.  Why? Remember I mentioned that me and the crew were house hunting?  Well, we said yes to one of the houses we looked at!

And now I'm wishing we could fast forward to the end of our rental lease and be all moved into our new place already.  Y'all don't understand (or maybe some of you do) how much I'm looking forward to leaving this rental/apartment life behind.  This move is going to be a positive in so many ways for us.  The kids will have a yard they can actually play in and I'll have space for a real outdoor garden and private space to shoot pictures and film videos in.

Remembering

Although it's been a few years since Ma died, this holiday season I found myself missing her just as much as I did on my first Christmas without her.  I've been replaying my most favorite memories of spending time with her over and over in my head.  I hope that I always remember those moments so that I can share those stories with my kids one day.

I love you, Ma!  Wish you were here instead of up there.  Nevertheless, I know you're watching over us.  You're in a better place and I shouldn't complain about that, but God knows I miss you like crazy everyday!

Wrapping

Yes, I know that Christmas has come and gone, but I've already gotten a head start on marking off gifts from my list for next Christmas.  I hit up a few after Christmas sales with my Christmas money this weekend.  I've been sneaking and wrapping them up when I can.  And while we're talking about wrapping, does anyone else have an obsession with buying wrapping paper?

My husband does and it drives me nuts.  I appreciate the fact that he wants to make sure we're well-stocked for the holidays, but we have over ten rolls of holiday wrapping paper (affiliate link) floating around.  Our collection is sure to expand next year.  Maybe, I can convince him to invest in gift bags and gift boxes instead.

Baking

Sadly, my oven hasn't been getting much use.  I did bake a ham for Christmas and we did make some salt dough ornaments that required baking, but that's about it.  However, my mom gifted me the cookbook above that is specifically for people with gluten, dairy and other food allergies this Christmas.  You can order your copy here (affiliate link). I'm looking forward to baking several of the desserts I found in there.

Also, why didn't anyone tell me how easy it was to make cheesecake?  I'm not talking about the no-bake box mix either.  Next week, I'm going to be trying my hand at making my first homemade cheesecake for me and the Mr.  I've been on the hunt for soy version that Moo can try.

Decorating

A bigger place means more rooms to decorate and furniture shopping of course.  I've been busy scouting the stores and websites for new furniture.  This whole process of deciding on what pieces to put in our new space is a bit overwhelming.  Not only is furniture expensive, but the variety of styles, colors, and materials are endless.

I've narrowed down themes for the bedrooms including the future nursery and have narrowed down the sofa sets for the den and formal sitting room to three options each.  While the kitchen won't require decorating minus bar stools for the breakfast bar, we have decided to upgrade our mismatched pot set.  I can't wait to share of this process with y'all in the New Year.

Whelp that's it folks.  We haven't been up too much as of late, but it was still nice to catch up with you guys.  I hope everyone had a great holiday and Happy New Year if I don't see you back around these parts before January 1, 2016!  Also, don't forget to take my reader survey and sign-up for my newsletter, The YUMM Lane.
