Thanksgiving Menu 2013

What's the most important part of Thanksgiving?  Besides spending time with family, friends and reflecting on all that we have to be thankful for.  The FOOD! Duh!  You see, food and I have a special bond.  I strive to cook healthy meals for my family throughout the year, but Thanksgiving is the one time of the year that I throw that out the window.

Another thing about Thanksgiving dinner that I've come to realize is that it's pretty much gluten-free!  And with two kids with food allergies.  Luckily, for Moo and JJ aren't a big fan of dressing or gravy which both have gluten in them.  Anyways, here's what will be on our Thanksgiving menu this year.

Almost Gluten-Free Thanksgiving Menu

-Turkey (We use Jennie-O because its gluten-free!)
-Collard Greens w/ Ham Bits
-Mashed Potatoes
-Brown Gravy (We're trying a gluten-free version this year)
-Green Bean Casserole (Moo gets a dairy free version)
-Macaroni and Cheese w/ Bacon (Me & the Mr only)
-Yam Patties
-Biscuits (gluten-free)
-Dressing (The Mr is the only one who eats this)
-Pumpkin Pie (Using gluten-free crust)
-Homemade Fruit Punch (I'll post the recipe later)

What's on your Thanksgiving menu this year?

  1. My Thanksgiving menu includes all the traditional yummies. Turkey, mac n cheese, collard greens, potato salad and the list goes on!! I'm excited about cooking this year. It will my MIL's first time with us for the holiday and I really want her to have a good time.

    1. I hope all goes well and your MIL enjoys herself. I totally forgot about potato salad. Will have to make a small serving for myself.

  3. I haven't sat down to make ours yet. Matter of fact I'm still not sure if we will even be here. I am a dressing fan so that will have to be on the list. I don't care much for turkey so we've talked about replacing it with something else. Just not sure what yet.

    1. I thought about axing the turkey but the Mr and Moo would hear of no such thing. LOL. They are such traditionalist.

    1. I had a seafood Thanksgiving in New Orleans a few years ago. I was in heaven. Sadly, JJ is allergic to seafoood. So, I doubt we'll be having one of those any time soon.

  5. We haven't even thought about Thanksgiving, yet. Somehow something will come together. I think we're getting a fresh turkey instead of frozen. We usually make everything from scratch over here, too.

    1. I need to start looking into if we have places that do fresh turkeys and make plans to order one for the next year. So many frozen turkeys are gluten free and you really have to get the gluten free brands early because they sell out fast.

I know sooner or later I'll have to throw down..but for now I enjoy eating other people food!!

    1. LOL. Maybe, one year I'll get a break from kitchen duty too. But for the time being, I kind of like cooking for the holidays. Enjoy your break now because I'm sure that your turn in the kitchen is coming up soon!
