Thankful Thursday

"Sibling relationships... outlast marriages, survive the death of parents, resurface after quarrels, that would sink any friendship.  They flourish in a thousand incarnations of closeness and distance, warmth, loyalty and distrust."
~Erica E. Goode

Yesterday was National Siblings Day.  So, today I just want to take a little time to express my thanks and appreciation for my wonderful siblings.

I can't even begin to say how thankful I am for my baby sister.  We've had this unbreakable bond pretty much since she came out of the womb.  We don't always see eye to eye but that never gets in the way of the love we have for one another.  And I know I've mentioned this a few times but she loves my children as if they are her own.

And for that alone, I am beyond thankful to have her not only in my life, but as my sister!!  I'm thankful that with my debut as Matron of Honor in our older sister's wedding, she has become my workout partner.  I'm telling you working out isn't such a task with her motivating me to get in better shape.  I'm thankful that she's very supportive my blog and everything that I'm trying to do with my brand.  I don't think I can ever repay God for sending her to my life!

My one and only baby brother has always been a rock in my life.  Growing up with a few rough patches because he was the only boy surrounded by nothing but girls.  I will admit that looking back on times from our childhood, I wish I had been understanding of how he must have felt all the time.  Nevertheless, we've managed to stay close.

I'm thankful that at times when I'm ready to jump off the bridge or flip tables like Teresa (RHONJ), he's the one who talks me out of it.  He is my voice of reason in difficult situations.  I honestly know that he doesn't judge me or the choices I make.  He might be my baby brother but please believe he ain't afraid to get it crunk if you mess with his older sister.  As the song says "you don't want no problems" with this dude!  Likewise, we get it popping if somebody messes with him.

My older sister was my first best friend.  We told each other secrets, talked about boys and were pretty inseparable.  Like my brother and I, we went through a rough patch and drifted apart.  However, when I was going through one of the roughest times in my life and the shit had hit the fan in my relationship, she was there for me with open arms.   And for that I am eternally grateful to her (and my soon to be bro in-law).

I don't know how sane I would have stayed during my first few months as a single mom without her.  In fact, I did lose it and had a breakdown in the middle of a Kmart in New Orleans.  Yep, surrounded by tons of shoppers and holding my baby (Moo), I broke down in tears because I felt so lost and destroyed.  She comforted me and let me had my moment that she knew I so desperately needed at the time.

I'm thankful that we are working hard to rebuild our relationship to what we had before.  It's always nice to have the one friend who's know you all your life!

When it comes to siblings what are you thankful for?
