Memory Keeper

Every family has a memory keeper aka scrapbooker.  Growing up my mom was the memory keeper out of her siblings.  She was always the one with the camera in her hand snapping candids at family dinners and holiday parties.  Then she would develop those pictures and put them in scrapbooks with each page custom decorated with stickers and cute little paper creations she'd either found or made herself.

Well, I guess the torch of memory keeper has been passed down to me because I'm now the one who's always behind the camera snapping pictures to store in scrapbooks.  And thanks to My Memories Suite, I don't have to spend hours or hundreds of dollars hunting down scrapbooking accessories and stationery.  Instead, I can create, decorate and print out custom pages from the comforts of my couch.  They have lots of templates to choose from like this one

This digital scrapbooking software gives you unlimited possibilities.  The best part besides being inexpensive is that you can also use it create birthday flyers, holiday cards, family newsletter and more.  You can choose your background, upload images, add text and much more.  In fact, I'm already working on creating a family Christmas card. (Yes, I'm that person.)  What do you think?

Pretty good huh?  I'm thinking that I'll be tackling invitations for Moo's birthday party next.  Overall, My Memories Suite is easy to buy, easy to download and easy use.  And guess what? One of you lucky memory keepers will get the chance to see just easy this amazing scrapbook software really is.

Yep, you can win your own FREE download of My Memories Suite by using giveaway form below.  Good luck.  Winner will be announced on Nov 9th!!  Meanwhile, you can stay updated on all their latest news by checking out their blog.

Goodies

Look at was delivered to my door this morning!!

A box full of goodies from Bloom.com.  I stumbled onto this site over on Plum District when I purchased a deals package for $40 worth of beauty goodies for only $20!!  And the shipping was FREE!!   The best part is that you can earn rewards or money off your next purchase when you shop at Bloom.com to go towards your next purchase.  You all know how I love savings!!

Anyways, here's a run down of everything I got.

I've heard good things about CoverGirl's Lipslicks. So, I got this one in Cutie.  I liked the name and the subtle color.
Snappy Sorbet

Lively Lilac

Lickety Split

I'm starting over from scratch with my nail polish collection.  These colors really stood out to me.  Moo has already tested them out with her Halloween manicure.  And it really does dry instantly!! Love it because she doesn't have a chance to get any of it on her clothes or on the furniture.

I've been on the hunt for some really good lip balm for a minute and decided to give this one by Badger a try.  It's organic and doesn't have any chemicals or preservatives in it.  And the Mocha Cocoa scent is helping me with my coffee craving.  I dabbed some on early and three hours later it's still on there.

Black Brown, Curved Brush

I like that this is a combination of black and brown because sometimes straight black mascara gives my eyelashes a unnatural look and I don't like that since I don't wear fakes.  So, I'm hoping that this shade will do better.  And I'm looking forward to trying the curved brush for the first time.

And I ordered 2 of the Aveeno Clear Complexion Cleansing Bars because my last pregnancy did a number of my skin.  And now it seems like the least little thing causes my face to breakout.  And with the all the natural ingredients in here, I'm not too worried about it being so harsh on my skin.

If you haven't shopped with Plum District for deal packages, I would suggest you at least sign up so you won't miss out on anything good.  In fact check out this amazing deal they have going on right now.  And certainly give Bloom.com a try too.

Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this specific post.  However, I did use previous compensation from Plum District to purchase this deal. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

5 Months and Counting

It's hard to believe that my little prince charming is already five months!!  Boy, the time has flown by so fast.  I often find myself just staring him as he sleeps.  It's been a blessing to watch him change and grow right in front of my eyes and not have to miss a minute of it.

So, what's new with JJ.  Well, for starters he's getting to be quite the big boy.  We're up to 18 lbs now.  No, he's not over weight.  Breast fed babies tend to be heavier and their weight levels off once they hit toddlerhood.   The pediatrician and nutritionist say that he's right on target.

We tried rice cereal a while back.  He seemed to like it the first time but has hated it every other time since then.  I'm thinking that maybe he liked the fact that he was getting food in his mouth more than the actual food itself.  I haven't started him any other foods yet.  So, we're back to just breastfeeding only. I'm not wasting money on cereal if he doesn't want it.

I think that we'll start experimenting with baby food after Halloween.  I'm so proud of myself for holding off for this long because as soon as Moo hit four months, people were already feeding her table scraps.  (My family loves food!)  I'm also hoping that by waiting this long, his immune system has built up a little more and will not have as many food allergies as Moo does.

He's got the sitting up in the bouncer seat down.  I used to be able to leave him there and not be in a hurry to go unload the washer or whatever.  Not anymore.  I come back around the corner and he's digging on the floor seeing what invisible dirt specks he can wipe up and eat with his hands.

Now, laundry scheduled around his naps.  He's fascinated by hair.  If he can get close to it, he will pull it. So, Moo is learning to keep her distance. LOL.  And I'm learning to wear my ponytail to one side when we're in the house.

He seems to be outgrowing his eczema a little bit.  We still have outbreaks but not as bad as they were in the beginning.  He's finding his voice.  He can talk for thirty minutes at time now.  I haven't clue what he's saying but I'm sure it's a list of toys he wants for Christmas.

TV is starting to interest him just a little bit.  He's a happy baby by nature (until he gets hungry) and laughs easily.  He hates having his hair combed.  And we're in the thick of teething.  Anything and everyone is fair game for gumming.  I think that he's going to be different and get a back tooth in first since he's always trying to fit his whole teething ring back there.  Not to mention, whenever I rub the back gums with Oraljel, he calms down instantly.  We'll see though.

And speaking of seeing, I know that you all are wondering what my little man looks like now.  Check out the pic below that my sister took at my mom's.

Isn't he handsome?!!!

YUMMommy Weekly

Letter From The Editor

Greetings,

I know that some of you are probably used to seeing the YUMMommy Weekly as an email newsletter but since my earlier followers can't subscribe because the html for button seems to have some kind of bug I've decided to just post the newsletter as a regular blog post instead.  Hopefully, when Google works out the kinks, we can switch back or not.

Anyways, can you all believe that it's almost Halloween?  This month is going by fast and this year has gone by faster.  I'm really glad that I've already purchased costumes for my little ones.  It's going to be a mad house these last few weeks with last minute shoppers raiding out whatever is left.  While I'm looking forward to celebrating JJ's first Halloween, I'm really looking forward to the day after when all the candy goes on sale for 60 to 95% off.  It's already on sale for 50% in some stores here.

I plan on stocking up and then using the candy as stocking stuffers for Christmas.  You can get like the big Halloween bags of Skittles and stuff to avoid being stuck with Halloween specific candy.  Plus, Moo and I are having joint parties this year since our birthday is in the same month and two weeks apart.  That candy will come in handy for treat bags.

I also wanted to mention that I adopted a military base for YUMMommy and its readers to send coupons to. I know that there seems to be this misconception that military families are ballin' and that's not the case.  Prices overseas are double what they are here in the US and these families do not get pay raises to make up for the currency difference.  So, if you buy a Sunday paper and don't use your coupons or if you only use certain coupons and throw the rest away please, please think about sending those coupons in so I can sort them and ship them out to our base.  Also, they can use expired coupons overseas. So, send those in too.

I'm about ready to mail my first batch of coupons and will be posting about that with pictures.  In addition, next week I will be hosting a giveaway!!  So, you if you love crafting and scrapbooking you will certainly want to check the blog everyday to make sure that you don't miss it!!  And I will be giving away a special prize when YUMMommy reaches 300 readers.  Again thank you to everyone who has been supportive, commenting, reading and spreading the word about YUMMommy.
Until Next Time,
YUMMommy

Thankful Thursday

This week has gone by fast for me.  I have lots to be thankful for starting with JJ turning five months on Sunday.  Yep, my little man is almost half a year old!!  Wow, I can't believe it's been that long since my delivery.  He's grown so much and is so active now.  I promise that an update is coming soon with pics.

Now, let me back up to Saturday.  We had one of the most enjoyable family outings ever. It was so peaceful and simple.  We barely spent any money and had the times of our lives.  Spending time as a family just reminded me that I needed to slow down and get back to the important things.  I was starting to overwhelm myself with projects and get frustrated but God put it back into perspective and I am very thankful that He did.

Then, Monday we celebrated my husband's birthday!!  We kept is low key just like he wanted it but next year we're doing it up big.  I was just thankful that we got to spend his special day together.  And the kids went to sleep early.  So, we got some alone time.

I'm also thankful that my neighbors have been unusually quiet this week.  They are usually loud and always airing their personal business in heated arguments that the entire neighborhood can here.  Thank goodness we'll be flying this coup very soon.

Anything special happen to make you thankful this week?

A Weekend to Remember

I'm back!  Yes, I took a four day weekend.  I needed it because I was starting to feel a little bit burned out from all the projects I've been juggling.  Not to mention, this was my husband's birthday weekend.  So, it was all about the family and us spending quality time together.

Friday was a lazy day for us.  JJ had kept me up most of the night before.  He's teething and wakes up at odd hours now.  We did manage to get out and go pick up some cake mix and stuff to make my husband's birthday cake with.

Saturday, we agreed that it was time to get out of the house.  Since, we still haven't found a second car that fits in our budget and is good on gas the kids and I do spend a lot of time in doors.  Plus, it's kind of hard venturing out with a busy toddler and a baby who is realizing that he too wants to become independent like his older sister.  And of course, I work from home so that too limits the amount of time we get away from the house.

Anyways, we decided to grab some lunch from McDonald's.  Then we headed Uptown.  Let me just say that Uptown  is one of my favorite places to be in the Queen City.  Well that and SouthPark.  If we were rich we'd be living in the thick of one of those neighborhoods.

I used live Uptown when I was in my dorm.  I have so many memories from adventures up there and I hope that one day my children will have happy memories from there as well.  Anyways, this was going to be JJ's first time out and exploring Uptown.  Moo has already explored Uptown a few times and loved it!

We starting back walking around checking out what was new-The Ritz Carlton, The Epi-Center, etc.  Then we came to the light rail and my husband thought it would be nice to ride it since none of us had been it.  We purchased round trip tickets and hopped on.

Moo was completely thrilled and smiled the whole ride.  Well, almost because she ended up falling asleep on the way back to the station.

Just being on the light rail gave me a chance to study my family.  Seeing the smiles on their faces warmed my heart.  It just made me realize again the important things in life--spending time your loved ones.

Our ride went smoothly.  Even JJ enjoyed it.  It was the most calm he's been since he started teething.  I felt so blessed to be sharing this moment with not only my husband but our two beautiful kids.  While we don't have it all materialistically, we have it all where it counts the most.

Sunday was another lazy of playing inside and sleeping in late.  Then Monday was the Big Day--my husband's birthday!!  We kept it pretty low key because that's his MO.  I made me him a nice steak dinner and his birthday cake and we chilled.   This is by far one of the most relaxing and best weekends we've had together as a family.

How was your weekend?

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday!!!  This week started off with a little family time.  Sunday afternoon, I got a nice visit from my mom and niece.  The kids played a little bit and then we hit the road to do a little shopping.  We used coupons of course. (Saving up for my dream vacation).

I'm very thankful that we got to spend that time together.  With me working on my freelance career and other projects that are tied to YUMMommy, I haven't been able to go home in a while.  Moo and JJ enjoyed having Grandma's attention.

I'm also thankful that I handled my bad shopping experience at Walmart well on Monday.  Sadly, this was not my first bad experience with a Walmart store.  I did a little research and found out that a few stores were recently sued for unfair trade and business practices and the consumers were winning.  I think it's sad that Walmart is ripping people off.

But I am really proud of how composed I stayed in front my of kids.  My husband couldn't believe it when I told him about it.  He knows how I feel about my money.  And the fact that I worked in retail for five years, I know all about coupon policies and how important it is for stores to follow all corporate policies.  I've seen people get fired for not doing so.

I'm thankful that this morning my husband told him how much he loves the things I write about him on my blog.  Yes, he reads it.  I'm happy that he continues to support my desire to move forward with my writing career, YUMMommy, all of my charity projects and more.  I'm thankful that our marriage continues to get stronger.

What small happenings are you thankful for this week?

The Walmart Debacle

I'm taking a break from our regularly scheduled Romance Wednesday posts to share with you all my recent experience at my local Walmart.  Let me just start by saying that I enjoy shopping at Walmart.  They are one of the few stores that still carry somewhat reasonably priced merchandise (food included).  I grew up shopping at Walmart.

Source

In fact, I'm pretty sure my mom has spent nothing short of a small fortune there.  Anyways, you all know that I am a frugal shopper.  We just don't have money to waste and even if we did, I still wouldn't change my frugal shopping habits.  I work hard to get the most bang for our bucks.  And in doing so that means that I coupon.

I wouldn't consider myself an extreme couponer.  I coupon on a much smaller scale in comparison to some people.  And until recently, I never had an issue with couponing at Walmart.  Since we moved to a different neighborhood, I shop at the Walmart that is closest to us rather than driving almost 45 minutes to the other Walmart we shopped at for 5 years.

Monday, I decided to go pick up some items that I had on my shopping list that I had finally gotten some coupons for.  Nothing fancy.  Just some soda, disposable razors, body wash and those mini Colgate toothbrush things.  I put all my coupons in an envelope and had calculated my total which should have came out to zero.

This past week, there have been a lot of high value and Free product coupons being put out in the Sunday papers, on company websites, Facebook, etc.  And I planned on taking full advantage of the ones for products that I use.  So, I loaded the kids up and we headed off to Walmart.  Everything was going well.  I was able to find the items needed with no problem.  Moo had a small meltdown over having to ride in the buggy but quickly calmed down.

I proceeded to check out.   And this my friends is where my shopping experience turned from a pleasant one to an utter debacle.  I loaded my items to the conveyor belt and greeted the cashier.  I informed her that I had some coupons I would be using and handed them over.  The whole mood of the cashier changed.

I could see her face take on a less than pleasant appearance.  Please keep in mind I had less than ten items.  It wasn't like she had a million coupons to scan.  So, instead of continuing to scan my items through, she immediately stops the transaction to go through my coupons.  Right off the top she pulls one of the coupons from the pile and proceeds to tell me that I can't use it.

"Why not?" I asked.
"Because you can't save $6 on this product," she says.  "We've had a lot of customers come in with this coupon and we've been instructed not to let them use it on the cheaper product."
"Why?" I persisted. "It says that I can use it on any two disposable razor packs except for the two count.  I have two twelve counts. This is a violation of your coupon policy."

She explains that obviously, the managers don't want customers getting cash back and having been scamming other customers by not allowing them to use their legit coupons on the cheaper razors that would have let them get less than a dollar back. She continues to look at through my stack of coupons with scrutiny and questioning each one.

At this point, other customers are behind me witnessing this and I start feel slightly humiliated.  Not because I'm using coupons. (There's nothing humiliating about saving money folks).  But this chick was acting like I was trying to rob or scam Walmart when it was the complete opposite.

What should have been an in and out trip had turned to a disaster.  Thankfully, I had a lower value coupon that I could use on the razors.  And instead of getting three packs like I had planned, I ended up getting one.  But even with the lower coupon I would still get the razors free.  I saw her look at that coupon and she looked like she wanted to refuse it too but I gave her my "You don't want to do that" look and she scanned the coupon through.

Now, my frustration is this:

1-I wasn't using fraudulent or illegitimate coupons.

2-I don't appreciate being humiliated or made to feel to stupid.

3-I don't appreciate stores that refuse to honor their policies.

I am very familiar with the Walmart coupon policy.  And it does not state that there is a limit of the amount of money you can get back if you have a high value coupon.  The crazy thing is that I wasn't even going to get cash back because the overage would have been eaten up by the tax and I had picked up some candy for Moo that I had put me over my calculated total.

JJ was getting a little fussy and I didn't want to wait a long time in the line at customer service with him crying his head off to talk to a manager.  So, I came home and called back to the store.  I asked the speak to a manager but guess what I stayed on hold forever and not one manager ever answered my waiting call.  I was pissed off at this point and decided to call corporate and file an official complaint.

In closing, I just want to say that I've been very brand loyal to Walmart.  I don't appreciate mangers telling cashiers to do things that are unethical.  I will not support brands who do things like this.  What I will do is take my business elsewhere and make sure that my family and friends do the same.

If you've been having issues with your cashiers not reading coupons or not following the policy properly you cannot take that out on the other customers who are following the policy correctly without corporate approval.  I think it is needless to say that it might be a while before I shop at Walmart again.  And if I had had more sense, I should have just walked out not buying anything.

Tell Us Something Good: Trip Mama

It's no secret that I want to travel.  Can you believe that my husband and I haven't been on a vacation together since we've been together.  That's almost 7 years!  And now that Moo is getting older and JJ has gotten used to his car seat and being on the go, I would like to start working more on marking off some of dream travel locations off my list.  Not to mention, we're hoping to take a nice family vacation this summer.

Now, we all the price of gas has made traveling more expensive.  It's can cost one person well over $300 to   travel and that's not even including lodging. I mean have you seen the cost of airplane tickets.  And let's not get started on hotels, rental cars, etc.  So, for a nice week long getaway for my family four, we're talking well over $1,000.  I've done the math and it's not pretty.  I could make a small down payment on a car or foreclosed home with the amount it would cost us to travel.

That's why I'm glad that I was introduced to Travel Mama.  They have a one click search feature that will search and compare more than 100 discount travel sites to make sure that I can get the lowest prices for my family.  How wonderful is that?!  No hopping from site to site because they compare with the leading five discount sites.

Also, Trip Mama offers exclusive discounts, deals and coupons.  You can register your email and get alerts on $39 flights and $29 per night hotel stays.  Talk about a steal.  And you all know how much I love a steal. In this economy, you have to be smart with your money.

There's no need to give up family vacations and going places.  So, check out Travel Mama if you plan on traveling for the holidays.  And don't forget to sign up to get their deal alerts.  It's really worth it.  Don't let yourself become a prisoner of the four walls of your workplace and home.  Get out and explore the world, search for adventure and make new memories.

TripMama End of Summer

Be on the look out for future posts about more amazing deals I get from Trip Mama.  We're catching the travel bug this upcoming year.
